Imports of fuel oil jumped 76 percent from May to June yet remained 30 percent below the June 2025 level. The half-year import total stood at 9.6 percent lower than a year earlier. The monthly export increase occurred as shipping demand rebounded, supported by lower prices, with the pickup most pronounced in the second half of June.
China had banned most fuel exports in March after the Strait of Hormuz closed amid Middle East conflict but began easing those limits in April once domestic stocks recovered.
