China's military promotes two generals after anti-corruption removals

China's military promoted two officers to the rank of general during a ceremony on Friday. Xi presented the promotion orders to Zhang Shuguang and air force commander Wang Gang. Zhang was also appointed head of the corruption investigation division at the Central Military Commission.

Commission vacancies The seven-member commission now has two seats filled after prior removals. The promotions place the two officers in position to fill remaining vacancies. The commission is chaired by Xi. Its only other current member is Vice Chair Zhang Shengmin.

Next steps A new commission is scheduled to be named in the fall of next year when the current five-year term ends.
