Senior Chinese lawmaker He Wei will attend a July 3 funeral ceremony in Tehran for late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Chinese foreign ministry announced on July 2. A ministry spokesperson said He will represent Beijing at the event. He serves as vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
Khamenei was killed on February 28, the first day of Israeli and U.S. airstrikes against Iran. Iranian state media reported that his state funeral will begin in Tehran on July 4 and conclude with burial in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad on July 9.
