Chinese and Pakistani officials meet in Beijing to discuss bilateral ties

Chinese and Pakistani officials met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday to discuss their bilateral relationship. The two sides described their partnership as an "all-weather" arrangement that includes economic, trade and security cooperation.

Chinese officials stated that relations with Pakistan remain a priority in neighborhood diplomacy regardless of changes in the international situation. They expressed willingness to build a closer community with a shared future and expand existing cooperation.

Pakistani officials described the relationship as one between "iron brother" countries. They noted that the world is passing through a critical moment and thanked China for its support in promoting peace.

Regional mediation role Pakistan has hosted face-to-face talks between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict involving Israel. Pakistani army officials have been involved in the mediation process. Chinese officials said they appreciate Islamabad's constructive role and will work with Pakistan to contribute to peace and stability in the Middle East.

In March, the two countries issued a five-point initiative calling for peace talks and restoration of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz carries roughly a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas shipments under normal conditions.
