Christian Pulisic is questionable for Friday’s World Cup match against Australia, USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino indicated Thursday. “We will see,” Pochettino said. ” Pulisic was substituted at halftime of the group-stage match against Paraguay.
He has been dealing with a calf issue initially described as precautionary. Pulisic has not taken part in full training sessions ahead of Friday’s match and has been limited to individual work while wearing a calf sleeve. He remains in individual training as of Thursday.
A victory over Australia would guarantee the USMNT a place in the knockout stage. The United States men’s national team last faced Australia in October and won 2-1. The USMNT opened the group stage with a win over Paraguay.
Malik Tillman moved to the wing after Pulisic exited against Paraguay, with Sebastian Berhalter entering in central midfield. According to CBS Sports, the projected starting XI is Matt Freese; Alex Freeman, Chris Richards, Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson, Malik Tillman, Tyler Adams, Timothy Weah, Weston McKennie, Sergino Dest, Folarin Balogun. m.
