Cincinnati Reds Sign Pitcher Chase Burns to $105 Million Contract

The Cincinnati Reds signed pitcher Chase Burns to a $105 million, seven-year contract. The deal secures the 23-year-old right-hander through the 2033 season and marks the largest guaranteed contract given to a pitcher with less than four years of service time. Burns had been selected to his first All-Star Game before the signing.

He was the second overall pick in the 2024 MLB amateur draft out of Wake Forest and entered the 2026 season with an 11-1 record and a 2.54 ERA. The signing was delayed when Reds general manager Brad Meador spilled coffee on the contract documents. Burns recounted the incident on Saturday before the Reds played the Rockies.

"That took some time to print a new one out," he said. " Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall said the timing was right to complete the agreement. Burns is the second Reds player to earn an All-Star selection within two years of being drafted, joining Scott Williamson.

"We think the sky's the limit for him," Krall said.
