Civil Trial Against Andrew Tate Adjourned Pending Details of Reopened Police Investigation
A London civil court has delayed the June trial of four women alleging sexual violence against Andrew Tate after his lawyers sought a stay and police reopened a criminal probe into the decade-old case. Mrs Justice Lambert urged investigators to proceed with urgency while stating the civil case would be heard as soon as it is ready.
A civil trial scheduled to begin on 22 June 2026 involving four women's claims of sexual violence against Andrew Tate was adjourned on Wednesday 6 May 2026. Mrs Justice Lambert made the ruling after Tate's lawyers applied for a 12-month stay of the civil case on Tuesday 5 May 2026. She opted against the full stay but adjourned proceedings to await further details on the police investigation.
Mrs Justice Lambert urged police to work with a degree of urgency. " The decision came after Tate's lawyers argued that they were awaiting materials from the police and that any potential future criminal proceedings could be prejudiced. Hertfordshire Constabulary announced in March 2026 that they were reopening the criminal case against Andrew Tate.
An independent review found that several police investigators from the 2015 case could be facing charges of gross misconduct. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating Hertfordshire Constabulary's response to reports made by three women. The IOPC investigation began following a voluntary conduct referral from Hertfordshire Constabulary in December 2023.
The IOPC is investigating a former detective constable for potential gross misconduct relating to alleged failures to properly investigate. It is also investigating two former detective sergeants at the level of misconduct who supervised the 2015 investigation. " Andrew Tate was arrested in 2015.
Phones with evidence connected to the case against Andrew Tate were seized in 2015. In 2024, four women decided to sue Andrew Tate in civil court.
Two of the women suing Andrew Tate worked for his online sex business in Luton, Bedfordshire. Two of the women suing Andrew Tate are former girlfriends who claimed they were attacked. British authorities authorized criminal charges for rape, human trafficking and assault against Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate after an investigation by Bedfordshire Police relating to three different women.
Matthew Jury, representing the women, said: "They have already endured more than a decade of waiting for justice. They have been let down time and again by the police, who failed to properly investigate their allegations the first-time round, and by the Crown Prosecution Service, which refused to listen to their concerns, even after the police were referred to the IOPC.
Hot Air reported that the situation highlights complications in the overlapping civil and criminal proceedings stemming from allegations first reported more than 10 years ago.
