Clarence Thomas Seen on Capitol Hill with Police Escort as Court Nears Final Opinions

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was observed walking through the House side of the Capitol on Monday accompanied by a Metropolitan Police Department officer and another man, The Hill reported. ” He also declined to comment on pending cases before the court. The Supreme Court is scheduled to release its final opinions of the term on Tuesday.

Decisions pending as of Monday include President Trump’s restrictions on birthright citizenship, state bans on transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s school sports, and limits on coordinated spending between candidates and political parties. On Monday the court blocked President Trump from immediately removing Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, ruled that states may accept mail ballots received after Election Day if postmarked by Election Day, and allowed Trump to fire Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter.

Thomas is 78 years old.

Republicans believe he was visiting the office of Adm. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of Congress and the Supreme Court, which is located on the House side of the Capitol. A spokesperson for House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that Johnson did not meet with Thomas on Monday.

Johnson spent multiple hours at the White House earlier that day. The Hill contacted a spokesperson for House Majority Leader Steve Scalise regarding any meeting with Thomas.
