Cleveland Guardians Lose Two Outfielders to Injuries in First Two Innings vs. Tigers
Rookie Chase DeLauter exited with a bruised rib cage after hitting the wall. Angel Martinez left after fouling a pitch off his foot.
ESPNThe Cleveland Guardians lost two outfielders to injuries during the first two innings of their game against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Rookie right fielder Chase DeLauter suffered a bruised right rib cage after colliding with the outfield wall while chasing Gleyber Torres' leadoff double in the first inning.
DeLauter had singled off Detroit ace Tarik Skubal with two outs in the inning before grabbing at his right side.
Left fielder Angel Martinez bruised his left foot when he fouled Skubal's first pitch off it in his first at-bat. Martinez stayed on the ground for several minutes while a trainer examined him. Martinez completed his at-bat, grounding out to first base, though he showed a noticeable limp while running.
He remained in the game for one more inning before Steven Kwan replaced him in center field. The Guardians said X-rays on Martinez were negative and confirmed he has only a bruise. 238 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs.
Third baseman Daniel Schneemann moved from his usual spot to center field after DeLauter's exit, with Stuart Fairchild shifting to right field. Schneemann hit a two-run homer in the third inning to give Cleveland a 3-1 lead.
