Background to the appointment The club recruited Edwards from a promotion-chasing side that sat top of the second tier at the time, paying a reported £4 million compensation. Edwards contributed to the signings of free-agent defender Kieran Trippier and striker Raul Jimenez, both completed with the aim of strengthening the squad for the current season.
