A coalition led by the Rev. Al Sharpton and the family of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. will hold a march for democracy in Washington on Aug. 28, ABC News reported. The event, named March on Washington 2026: Defend the Vote, falls on the 63rd anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington.
National Action Network announced the plans Tuesday. He added that 63 years after his father stood at the Lincoln Memorial, participants are called to march again not only in remembrance but in action.
The NAACP, the National Urban League and the League of United Latin American Citizens are among the groups expected to participate. The march is expected to draw civil rights leaders, faith leaders and community organizers. The original 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom drew an estimated 250,000 people at the Lincoln Memorial.
The location in Washington and other details will be announced later, according to National Action Network.
