Coalition Talking Points Document Focuses on Labor Tax Plans and Own Policies

Abc reported that a seven-page document of daily talking points was distributed to senior Coalition MPs on Tuesday. The document makes only one reference to One Nation and contains no direct mention of Pauline Hanson. The document instructs MPs to say the Coalition will turn around its polling result with more time.

It states the Coalition will prove it is the only party that can deliver real, credible and competent change, be clear about what it stands for, and expose the risks of both Labor and One Nation. Abc reported that the document states Labor's minor improvement in two separate polls published on Monday resulted from the federal government having conned voters into believing it had fully backflipped on its tax plan.

The document contains about six points explicitly criticising Labor's tax plans and a similar number of lines relating to the Coalition's own policies as a contrast.

Opposition Leader Angus Taylor emphasised discipline and unity to colleagues ahead of the winter break. He stated it will take hard work to win back voters. The document urges Coalition MPs to stay the course in the face of dismal polling and states Australians have simply not heard enough about what the opposition has to offer.

Liberal frontbencher Melissa McIntosh suggested on Monday that the party needed a rebrand. Former prime minister Tony Abbott rejected the rebrand suggestion, stating it would hardly be the Liberal Party if it weren't called the Liberal Party. Shadow Attorney-General Michaelia Cash stated Australians do not want the Liberals to rebrand.
