Coco Gauff Defeats Jessica Pegula to Reach Wimbledon Semifinal

Coco Gauff defeated Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the Wimbledon women's singles quarterfinal on July 7, 2026, to reach her first semifinal at the tournament. Gauff trailed after the first set but converted all four break-point opportunities in the final two sets. She served at 76 percent in the third set and broke Pegula's serve three times.

Gauff broke for a 2-1 lead in the third set before Pegula broke back to level the score at 3-3. Gauff broke again at love to reach 4-3 and sealed the win when Pegula's backhand went into the net at 3-5, 30-40. In the second set, Pegula double-faulted at 0-40 while serving at 3-4.

Gauff closed that set with a 117 mph ace. Gauff, age 22, became the youngest player to reach the semifinals at all four Grand Slam tournaments since 2007 and is the highest remaining seed in the women's draw. "Honestly, pretty insane.

Considering I hadn't won a match on grass in 2 years before this tournament. I'm definitely just really happy with how I played today," Gauff said on July 7. Gauff will receive approximately $1.24 million for reaching the semifinals.

The tournament winner earns close to $5 million. Pegula, age 32, has never advanced past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
