Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner’s return for late-July training camp remains uncertain after neck surgery

Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is several months into rehabilitation from neck surgery to repair a herniated disc sustained during the 2025 NFL season. Buckner, 32, was diagnosed with the disc pressing against a nerve, which left his left side with reduced feeling and little strength.

He first tried rest and stem-cell therapy at a clinic in Panama without success before proceeding with the operation.

ESPN reported that Buckner has resumed running in April 2026 and described steady progress. He did not participate in any spring drills or practices during the Colts’ offseason program that concluded earlier in June. "The first couple of weeks, you can't really do much," Buckner said.

"I mean, I couldn't even pick up my own kids for a little bit. Anything heavier than 10 pounds. " The Colts’ 2026 defense is expected to be the youngest in franchise history. Buckner’s availability for the start of training camp in late July remains uncertain.
