Congresswoman Jinky Luistro, 50, is leading the prosecution team in the Senate trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. The trial addresses alleged offenses committed during Duterte's time in office. Luistro entered Congress in 2022 after winning her district by two percentage points. She had previously served as municipal administrator of Mabini, Batangas.

Luistro earned her law degree from the University of Batangas and taught law subjects there. She worked as a consultant at the Department of Justice and later investigated a tax credit fraud case that reached the Supreme Court in 2014.

Path to the Prosecution Role Luistro joined the dangerous drugs and public accounts committees after Speaker Martin Romualdez identified her investigative skills. She participated in the quad committee's review of events during former President Rodrigo Duterte's administration.

In February 2025, Luistro signed the first impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte. An earlier Senate trial was halted after the Supreme Court ruled the House process unconstitutional. During budget hearings in August 2024, Luistro questioned Duterte's request to withhold an audit report on confidential expenditures.

In November 2024, former President Duterte appeared before the committee and agreed with Luistro's characterization of his statements on the anti-drug campaign.

Luistro has stated she has not considered a 2028 Senate bid.

The outcome of the current Senate trial may affect her political standing. Opponents have referenced a 2020 case filed against her husband Noel Luistro, which was later dismissed by the court.
