Connecticut Team Waives Guard Then Signs Her to Developmental Contract
A guard waived earlier this month rejoined the same roster on a developmental deal after the team added another player. The move follows roster adjustments tied to overseas commitments and performance.
CBS SportsA team waived a guard on Thursday to open a roster spot for a French player returning from overseas play. The same guard signed a developmental contract with the organization two days later. The 24-year-old appeared in nine games with three starts after an earlier preseason release by another club.
Officials cited the need to accommodate the 21-year-old French guard, who averaged 10.4 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals in 26.6 minutes per game during her rookie season.
The new collective bargaining agreement created two non-mandatory developmental roster spots per team that do not count against the salary cap. Eligible players receive benefits and a stipend plus game bonuses but can appear in no more than 12 games before the team must convert or release them.
It remains unclear whether the nine games already played count toward that limit. League officials did not respond to a request for clarification.
The guard averaged 3.5 points and 1.6 assists on 33.9 percent shooting across 29 games last season. With the current team she posted 11.2 points and 3.2 assists on 57.5 percent shooting in her first five appearances before production declined. Her college career spanned 172 games across three schools and included All-ACC and Big 12 honors plus AP Third-Team All-American recognition in 2025.
