Energy company has moved to sign a post-war gas deal with Damascus. HKN Energy has already begun operating seven oil fields in Syria under a 25-year agreement with the government in Damascus. Those fields were previously operated by Syria's Kurds.
The HKN contract is structured as a production-sharing deal and represents the first major arrangement of its kind between Syria's new government and an international oil company. Syria has sought to revive energy activity after years of civil war, and the ConocoPhillips arrangement would expand foreign participation in that effort.
