Conor McGregor will face Max Holloway in a welterweight bout at UFC 329 on July 11 in Las Vegas, ESPN reported. The matchup marks McGregor's first Octagon appearance since he broke his leg in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. McGregor, 37, holds a record of 22-6 and one prior win over Holloway, whom he defeated by three-round decision as featherweights in August 2013.
Holloway carries a record of 27-9. McGregor said success and fame derailed him over the past decade. He identified his 2017 boxing match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the tipping point, an event that reportedly earned him more than $100 million.
Before that fight, McGregor had won two UFC championships and became the first fighter to hold two belts simultaneously in late 2016. "Fame has its pitfalls," McGregor said in an interview with Paramount. "You better move carefully in this world, for sure, probably even more so now.
I've taken a lot of lessons in my life, and it's just about self-discovery. " "At 27 years of age, I had the game conquered," McGregor added. "Made some mistakes off of that, and that's it. " McGregor was found liable for sexual assault in a civil case in 2018.
He stated he is set for a second fight in April 2027.
