Construction robotics company raises $32 million Series B

An Amsterdam-based construction robotics company raised $32 million in a Series B round led by Khosla Ventures. The company plans to use the proceeds for a U.S. market launch this year, expand its European robot fleet, and increase the range of tasks its machines can perform.

The round follows a $25 million Series A co-led by Plural and Hummingbird in February 2024. The company currently operates more than 150 robots on active European job sites and positions its machines as a specialist subcontractor service that charges per brick or per square meter.

Industry context Construction technology firms have seen investment decline 33% year-on-year after several high-profile failures. One SoftBank-backed startup raised over $1 billion before filing for bankruptcy in 2021, while another Australian firm offered a $6 million bricklaying robot that required large upfront commitments from contractors.

The company designs compact, electric, self-driving bricklaying robots that use standard bricks and mortar already specified by contractors, avoiding new regulatory approvals. It targets initial U.S. operations in Texas, Florida, Virginia, and Arizona.

Global construction represents 13% of world GDP yet has recorded virtually no productivity gains in 50 years. The U.S. construction sector is projected to need 349,000 net new workers in 2026 while facing a housing shortfall of 3 to 4 million units.

Other firms are also pursuing autonomous construction equipment. A Zurich-based company raised $23 million last November to add cameras and AI to existing excavators and loaders, and major manufacturers including Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Volvo are developing similar systems in a market valued at $10 billion in 2025.
