Convicted Frenchman Admits Killing Wife in Letter from Prison

Cédric Jubillar, 38, has confessed from prison to killing his wife Delphine Jubillar, 33, whose body has never been recovered after her disappearance from the couple's home in Cagnac-les-Mines in southern France on December 16, 2020. His lawyer Pierre Debuisson disclosed the confession letter at a news conference in Toulouse on July 6, 2026, and said Jubillar is ready to tell investigators where he hid the remains after moving the body by car on the night of December 15-16.

Jubillar wrote that he killed Delphine after a marital dispute and stated he never intended to kill her.

Debuisson quoted his client telling him a few weeks earlier, "I need to tell you the truth. " Jubillar contacted police at 04:00 local time on December 16, 2020, to report his wife missing. He was placed under formal investigation and detained in mid-2021, then convicted in October 2025 after a trial that relied on circumstantial evidence.

His appeal hearing had been scheduled for September 2026, but Debuisson said the trial is now expected to be postponed so that Jubillar can be re-interrogated and searches for the body can occur. Malika Chmani, the lawyer representing the couple's two children, who were aged six years and 18 months at the time of the disappearance, said on July 6 that the family is "relieved for the children" and that it is now important for Jubillar to disclose the body's location.
