A cornerback appeared by video at a hearing Thursday in Tampa, Florida, where a judge ordered him held without bail on charges of kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy. The charges stem from a Feb. 4 incident in which three men in their late teens were held at gunpoint, battered and robbed inside a Tampa apartment, police said.

Authorities allege the cornerback led the plot after personal property worth more than $250,000 was stolen from him and others at an Airbnb rental in Largo three days earlier.
court proceedings The cornerback turned himself in Wednesday night and was taken into custody. Prosecutors announced they will argue at Monday's hearing that he should remain jailed until trial. The charges carry a possible sentence of up to life in prison.

A spokesperson for the agency representing the cornerback said there is no credible evidence linking him to the incident and that the government is relying on testimony from convicted felons who may have incentives to shift blame.
At least seven people face charges in the case, including two who pleaded guilty Wednesday and are cooperating with authorities, the state attorney's office said. One of those individuals was sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping, conspiracy and robbery with a gun.
