Cornerback ordered held without bail on kidnapping and robbery charges

A 23-year-old cornerback surrendered at a Florida jail Wednesday night and appeared at a hearing Thursday in Tampa where a judge ordered him held without bail until a pretrial detention hearing Monday morning. The player faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery stemming from an alleged February 4 attack on three men in their late teens.

Incident details Police said the victims were lured to an apartment, held at gunpoint, battered and pistol-whipped before being forced into a vehicle that drove away. Investigators allege the cornerback was the primary conspirator and directed co-defendants via a group chat during the incident.

State Attorney Suzy Lopez said in a statement that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands and that a dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping or violence. EAG Sports Management CEO Denise White said there is no credible evidence linking the player to the allegations and that the government appears to be relying on testimony from convicted felons who may have incentives to shift blame.
