Cottesloe Beach Foreshore Project Receives $15 Million in Funding
The Town of Cottesloe and the federal government will jointly fund a two-stage revitalisation of the Cottesloe Beach foreshore. Stage one will convert a car park into a public piazza and widen footpaths.
The Town of Cottesloe and the federal government will spend $15 million on the first stage of the Cottesloe Beach Foreshore Revitalisation Project.
Stage one will convert carpark one into a piazza for community events and widen footpaths between Marine Parade Road and the beach. Additional trees will be planted and public spaces will be expanded. The full project is estimated to cost just over $30 million. Stage two would redesign carpark two and add short-stay accommodation and retail outlets.
Cottesloe mayor Melissa Harkins said the council had sought federal funding because it could not finance the project alone. She said the town is also requesting state government funding for stage two. Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister Patrick Gorman said the grant was awarded through the Albanese Government’s urban precincts and partnerships program after independent assessment.
Harkins said construction would begin as soon as possible but gave no completion date for stage one.
