Dumfries and Galloway Council has removed a temporary wheelchair access ramp from Wigtown County Buildings after an incident at the site. The council stated the ramp posed a "significant risk of injury" and was taken away to protect public safety. The building, constructed in 1863 and listed as category B, houses council services including the library and registration of births, deaths, and marriages.

The council said wheelchair users can still reach the building by calling in advance. Staff will deploy and supervise the ramp when notice is given. " The authority added it is contacting building users directly to understand and support their needs during this period.

The council said it is treating the matter as a priority and hopes to deliver a safe and accessible solution as soon as possible. Wheelchair users needing assistance were asked to call 030 33 33 3004.
