Couple Brings Son’s 1989 Wall Note to The Repair Shop for Restoration
Margaret and John Ivin presented a kitchen wall fragment containing a note written by their late son Christopher to the BBC program. The message, left in 1989 when he was 14, was found during home renovations after his death from cancer at age 35. Expert Rob Butterfield reassembled the fragile piece.

GB News reported that Margaret Ivin and her husband John brought a section of their kitchen wall to The Repair Shop. The wall section contained a note written by their son Christopher on 8 December 1989. Christopher wrote the note at age 14.
He died from testicular cancer at age 35. The note was discovered the previous summer during renovation work at the family home. The note read: "This is original wallpaper, Friday 4:15, 8th of December 1989.
Please leave this wallpaper. " She added that Christopher had "a very, very rare form of cancer. " Margaret Ivin stated: "When you lose a child, you never get over it. " Workmen attempted to preserve the note by cutting it from the wall, but the plaster began to deteriorate.
Expert Rob Butterfield restored the wall fragment containing the note. Margaret Ivin said "That's amazing" upon seeing the completed restoration.
