A Federal High Court judge in Abuja directed that online publisher Omoyele Sowore be held at Kuje Correctional Centre on cybercrime charges. The same ruling dismissed an application to remove the judge from the case.
vanguardngr.comThe Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered online publisher and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre over alleged cybercrime. Justice Mohammed Umar issued the remand order in a short ruling and directed that Sowore remain at the facility until the court decides a motion seeking a stay of execution of an earlier order that revoked his bail and issued a bench warrant.
The court also dismissed Sowore's application asking Justice Umar to step aside from the case on grounds of alleged bias.
Umar adjourned the matter to June 24 for arguments on the stay application filed by Sowore's new lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN. The remand follows a June 16 ruling that revoked Sowore's bail after he did not appear for trial. On that date, Justice Umar granted an oral application by counsel to the Department of State Services, Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, and issued the bench warrant.
The court is scheduled to hear arguments on the stay motion on June 24.
