A media producer known as Mr Explosive has acknowledged that the Iranian government is a customer for his team's AI-generated videos styled like Lego animations. These videos, which depict scenes involving US President Donald Trump and other figures, have garnered millions of views on social media.
Substrate placeholder — needs reviewA media operation called Explosive Media produces AI-generated videos resembling Lego animations but featuring vivid, fast-paced scenes. These videos include depictions of dying children, fighter jets, and US President Donald Trump. The videos have circulated widely on social media platforms, with Iranian and Russian state media accounts sharing them to millions of followers.
The videos convey messages of Iran resisting perceived oppression by the United States. One video shows Donald Trump falling through documents labeled as 'Epstein file' amid rap lyrics about leaking secrets. Another video depicts George Floyd under a policeman's boot while stating that Iran stands for those wronged by the system.
Mr Explosive, the operator behind Explosive Media, initially denied working for the Iranian government in interviews but later confirmed it as a customer during a video call with The Bbc. He appeared silhouetted with red and green lighting, colors of the Iranian flag, and a green-feathered helmet on his desk associated with Shia warrior Husayn ibn Ali, who appears in some videos.
Explosive Media's team consists of fewer than ten people and uses Lego-style graphics because they serve as a 'world language,' according to Mr Explosive.
The videos contain factual inaccuracies.
For instance, one clip shows the Iranian military capturing a downed US fighter-jet pilot. US officials reported that the pilot, whose aircraft was shot down in a remote mountainous region of Iran, was rescued by US special forces on 4 April and is receiving treatment in Kuwait.
Mr Explosive disputed this account, stating there was possibly no lost pilot or rescue operation and suggesting the US aimed to steal uranium from Iran.
He added that only 13% of what Mr Trump says is based on facts. The videos also reference the Epstein files to illustrate a confrontation between Iran, which Mr Explosive described as seeking truth and freedom, and others he associated with unsubstantiated claims of cannibalism.
A US-based TikTok influencer, @newswithsteph, shared the videos and described them as shockingly accurate, claiming they revealed a US special operations mission for uranium rather than a rescue.
Briant, a propaganda expert, stated that AI-generated propaganda clips have been viewed hundreds of millions of times during the war.
She noted that such content is highly sophisticated and enables authoritarian countries to target Western audiences effectively using tools trained on Western data. Dr Tine Munk, a cyber warfare expert at Nottingham Trent University, described Iran's tactics as defensive memes.
The use of AI allows direct communication with English-speaking audiences, amplifying alternative narratives about events like the pilot rescue.
