Artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara will be released from a Cuban prison and travel to the United States on Saturday with his family, Cnn reported. He completed a five-year sentence and has been granted immigration parole. A US embassy official said the embassy had been pushing for his release.
The official added that Otero Alcántara was expected to fly to Miami. Otero Alcántara was arrested in 2021 after participating in the July 11 protests over Cuba’s lack of freedoms and worsening economy. He is a member of the San Isidro Movement.
