Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong was fined an undisclosed amount after a verbal exchange with a female fan during Sunday’s game against the White Sox at Rate Field. The incident occurred in the fifth inning after Crow-Armstrong failed to catch a ball in right-center field. A fan heckled him, and he responded with vulgar language.

Crow-Armstrong, 24, issued an apology on Monday.

He said he regrets his choice of words and is concerned about children seeing the exchange on social media. “Directly or indirectly, I don’t think that any of the women in my life would think I would say those kinds of words regularly,” Crow-Armstrong said.

” He added that the fan started the exchange. The fine follows standard practice for uniformed personnel who interact negatively with fans. Crow-Armstrong avoided a suspension. He said he plans to respond differently in the future. “It’s just about being a little more respectful and killing someone with kindness instead of matching their level of intent,” he said.

Similar incidents in 2025 led to fines and suspensions for other players, including relief pitcher Dennis Santana and left fielder Tommy Pham while they were with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
