Daejeon Chosen to Host 2029 Invictus Games over Danish and U.S. Bidders
Daejeon, South Korea, won the right to stage the 2029 Invictus Games on July 20. The city defeated bids from Aalborg, Denmark, and San Diego, United States, in a unanimous vote by the Invictus Games Foundation board.

Daejeon, South Korea, was selected Monday to host the 2029 Invictus Games, becoming the first Asian city to stage the international sports competition for wounded, injured and sick service members. The Invictus Games Foundation board of trustees voted unanimously to award the event to the city over Aalborg in Denmark and San Diego in the United States.
The foundation cited Daejeon's readiness after an on-site inspection of facilities on February 25, 2026, the submission of South Korea's application in May and a bidding presentation delivered in London in June.
Veterans Minister Kwon Oh-eul traveled to London to present the bid. The foundation said South Korea's selection as the first Asian host, combined with its cultural influence, is expected to draw greater participation from other Asian nations in future editions.
The Invictus Games was founded by Britain's Prince Harry in 2014 and had previously been held only in North America, Europe and Australia.
Daejeon lies about 140 kilometers south of Seoul. The 2029 games are projected to attract roughly 3,000 people, including 550 athletes from 26 countries and around 1,100 family members.
