Dak Prescott Calls Cowboys Missing Playoffs 'Sucks' While Praising New Defense

com reported. Prescott made the comment while discussing the team's recent performance following a wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers in January 2024. Prescott signed a four-year contract extension worth $240 million with $231 million guaranteed in September 2024 after finishing as a finalist for the 2023 NFL regular-season Most Valuable Player Award.
The Cowboys missed the playoffs in both the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9 of the 2024 season. The 2025 Cowboys finished with a 7-8-1 record and punted on their Week 18 matchup in January 2026.
The Cowboys made multiple offseason moves in 2026 to bolster the defense and replaced defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus with Christian Parker, who previously served as defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Prescott said it is exciting to compete against the new-look defense in training camp. "When you have a team like this, and they've done everything they have in the offseason, obviously, we got to push and get better on offense, but when we know we're already improving on defense, that's the minimum," Prescott said.
"It's exciting," he added about the vibe ahead of training camp.
