Dallas Stars face restricted free agent talks with winger seeking long-term deal

The Dallas Stars continue negotiations with a restricted free agent winger who tied for fourth in the league with 45 goals last season. The player and his agent are seeking a long-term contract with an average annual value above $14 million. The team has offered an eight-year deal at $12 million per year, matching the structure given to another forward acquired last season.

Multiple clubs have contacted the Stars to discuss a trade, with the team reportedly asking for a package comparable to the assets sent in that earlier deal.

Offer sheet option An offer sheet above roughly $11.94 million would require the signing team to surrender four first-round picks spread over five drafts beginning in 2027. The trade market may therefore present a lower cost for interested clubs. The negotiating window remains open ahead of the July 1 free-agency period.

Capitals add wingers The Washington Capitals acquired two wingers this week in separate deals. One agreement runs eight years at $10.5 million annually in a sign-and-trade arrangement; the second carries an $8.125 million salary through the 2030-31 season.

The moves strengthen the forward group under head coach Spencer Carbery. Team officials said the additions were made to improve the roster rather than to influence any pending decisions by the captain.
