The couple met in the lobby of a hotel in Wales.
The man was serving as a judge on a talent show and filming auditions there. The woman, a model from Wales, approached him as a fan and asked for an autograph; he agreed in exchange for her phone number, and they began dating soon after. The couple announced their engagement in 2016 and married in 2018.
In a 2016 interview with a magazine, the man discussed his hesitation to propose due to their age difference.
“I had a saying, 'You don't get married because you want to live with someone, you get married because you can't live without them'. I felt that way.”
The woman, in the same interview, described her reaction to the proposal. She said she was overwhelmed and cried, noting that the man had proposed playfully before but this time was serious. The man was previously married twice.
