DeAndre Hopkins Names Joe Burrow as Top Quarterback Choice for Next Team
Veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins expressed interest in joining the Cincinnati Bengals to play with quarterback Joe Burrow. He cited Burrow's skills and toughness in a recent interview. The Bengals have focused on defensive improvements rather than adding wide receivers.
larrybrownsports.comVeteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins stated that he would like to play with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow next. Hopkins made the comment during an interview at the 152nd Kentucky Derby on Saturday. He described Burrow as one of the best quarterbacks, praising his game and toughness.
Hopkins has played for multiple teams over his 13-year NFL career, catching passes from 17 different quarterbacks. He was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in October 2024, where he contributed to the team reaching the Super Bowl, which they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Before that, he joined the Baltimore Ravens in the previous offseason, aiming for a Super Bowl win with quarterback Lamar Jackson, but the team finished with an 8-9 record.
Hopkins and Burrow connected for a touchdown in the inaugural Fanatics Flag Football Classic in late March. Burrow led the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI in 2021, losing to the Los Angeles Rams, and to the AFC Championship Game the following season, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Bengals have not made the playoffs since then. The Bengals extended contracts to wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in March 2025. Burrow missed games due to injuries in 2023 and the previous season, but in a fully healthy season, he led the NFL with 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, though the team went 9-8 and missed the playoffs due to defensive issues.
The Bengals' defense ranked last in run defense, second-worst in total defense, and third-worst in scoring defense last season. In the 2026 NFL Draft, they traded the 10th overall pick to the New York Giants for defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II. They also made defensive additions in free agency and with their first two draft picks.
