Deezer announced Remix Lab on Wednesday, enabling users to remix tracks from select artists using in-app tools. The feature pays artists for streams and starts in France with plans for later expansion.
TechCrunchDeezer announced the launch of its Remix Lab feature on Wednesday. The tool lets fans remix songs from select artists using in-app adjustments such as tempo and reverb or changes to musical genre and style. Artists receive payment for every stream of the resulting tracks.
The feature appears on select artists’ pages in the Deezer app and is initially available only in France. Users can remix tracks from artists including Céline Dion, Alain Souchon, Alonzo, Ronisia, Mosimann, Tiakola, and Zaho. TechCrunch reported that Deezer has also introduced a separate tool that scans playlists on services such as Spotify and Apple Music to detect AI-generated tracks.
Users may enter contests through the Deezer Club. Winners will be named in early September, with their remixes placed in a dedicated playlist and each recipient awarded two tickets to a Deezer Purple Door event plus exclusive artist merchandise. “This remix tool perfectly embodies our vision of offering a product that enriches the listening experience for fans, by allowing them to participate in the creative process and create a deeper connection with their favorite music, directly in the Deezer app,” CEO Alexis Lanternier said in a statement.
Head of product Pierre Trochu described the available transformations in a company blog post. Deezer stated it has vague plans to expand Remix Lab to additional countries.
