Delta Air Lines Announces New Business Class Suites for Airbus Aircraft
Delta Air Lines has introduced a new business class suite for its future Airbus A350-1000 aircraft and existing A330 fleets. The suites feature sliding doors, enhanced privacy, and modern amenities. This update is part of efforts to standardize cabins and meet demand for premium seating.
Delta Air Lines announced on Monday a new business class configuration for its aircraft. The update targets future Airbus A350-1000 planes and current Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 models. The airline has 20 A350-1000 aircraft on order, with the first delivery expected in early 2027.
The new suites, named Delta One Suite, use the VantageNOVA seat design from Thompson Aero Seating, a manufacturer based in Northern Ireland. Delta Air Lines is the launch customer for this seat, which builds on the previous Vantage XL platform used in current suites. The design includes sliding doors for privacy and aims to provide a more spacious feel with slimmer doors and lighter materials.
Nearly half of the A350-1000 cabin will consist of business class or Premium Select seating. All seats will include Bluetooth-capable televisions and memory foam cushioning. The airline stated that this configuration supports its fleet modernization and standardization efforts.
Features of the New Suites The Delta One Suites offer lie-flat beds over six feet long, with direct aisle access for all passengers.
Each suite includes a side table, storage cubbies, power outlets, USB ports, a wireless phone charger, and a device holder. Passengers will receive an amenity kit with toiletries and noise-canceling headphones. A dedicated self-service refreshment station will be available in the Delta One cabin, offering non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.
The suites feature 24-inch 4K QLED screens with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing wireless headphone use. The design incorporates darker tones and wood-like finishes, replacing the previous red, white, and blue scheme. The announcement follows customer and employee feedback, focusing on privacy, sleep quality, and convenience.
Middle seats in the business class section will have dividers for added privacy. With doors closed, the suites provide a pod-like enclosure shielded from neighbors.
Retrofits and Broader Cabin Updates Delta Air Lines plans to install the new suites on its A330 fleets, which have an average age of about 20 years according to Planespotters data.
The A330 suites will use forward-facing seats on the Vantage XL platform, rather than the angled configuration on the A350-1000. These retrofits will occur during scheduled maintenance to minimize disruptions. Premium Select seating, which includes oversized recliners with legrests, footrests, larger televisions, and enhanced meals, will receive upgrades.
These include memory foam cushioning and 16-inch QLED screens with Bluetooth. Economy sections on both aircraft types will gain an extra inch of legroom, 13-inch 4K QLED screens with Bluetooth, improved cushioning, and a darker color scheme. The airline aims to have 90% of its Delta One seats equipped with suites featuring doors by 2030.
Currently, suites are installed on Airbus A350-900 and A330-900neo aircraft. Older Boeing 767 aircraft, which have refreshed interiors without doors, are expected to be phased out by the end of the decade.
Industry Context This initiative aligns with industry trends where airlines are investing in premium cabins to address growing demand for enhanced in-flight comfort.
Other carriers, including United Airlines and American Airlines, have introduced pod-style business class on new aircraft. Turkish Airlines and Singapore Airlines are also adding doors to their business class cabins. United Airlines operates some aircraft with snack bars and plans to expand this feature to Boeing 787s and Airbus narrowbody planes.
Delta Air Lines' updates position its A350-1000 as one of its most premium aircraft. The changes support the airline's goal of reducing product variations and providing consistent experiences across its fleet.
