A Democratic group is launching a $50 million advertising campaign Tuesday that targets more than a dozen House and Senate races, many in Republican-held districts. American Bridge 21st Century previously concentrated on presidential contests. The new effort adds to Democratic attempts to gain control of Congress in this year's midterm elections.

The House districts are located in Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. Senate races receiving support are in Alaska, Iowa, Michigan and Mississippi. The group is not entering Senate contests in Maine, North Carolina and Texas, citing sufficient existing resources in those states.

Advertising will run across digital platforms, streaming audio, television, social media, direct mail and radio.

Beychok, co-founder of American Bridge 21st Century, said the organization decided to focus on issues at a visceral level and to feature specific voters describing their economic experiences. One ad participant is a 50-year-old personal trainer from Walford, Iowa, who said he changed his party registration after previously voting for President Donald Trump.

Another participant is a 64-year-old retired health care administrator from Norwalk, Iowa, who described herself as moderate to progressive and said she has increased her political involvement. " He added that the group aims to maximize wins in Republican territory this year.
