Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner wrote explicit comments on Reddit about portable toilets and graffiti during military service. The posts, made under a now-deleted account, resurfaced as Platner campaigns for the U.S. Senate seat.
Fox NewsDemocratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner wrote graphic sexual comments on Reddit about portable toilets and explicit graffiti found in military restrooms. The posts appeared under the username "P-Hustle," an account Platner previously acknowledged as his own.
In a March 2017 post on Reddit’s r/Military forum, Platner responded to a discussion about nostalgic military smells. He wrote that he still had to masturbate every time he sat in a portable toilet because the blue water smell had conditioned him. In a March 2021 post on Reddit’s r/USMC forum, Platner described a crude penis drawing inside a portable toilet while deployed overseas.
He called the image "beautiful" and "engorged and veiny" and said he sat in "sheer awe" at the sight.
Platner enlisted in the Marines in 2003 and served three combat tours in Iraq. He later joined the Maryland Army National Guard and completed a fourth tour in Afghanistan before returning to Afghanistan as a security contractor. Fox News Digital reached out to Platner’s campaign for comment on Monday.
Platner has previously said the posts were jokes and part of online "shitposting" meant to bother people. The resurfaced comments add to earlier scrutiny of Platner’s past social media activity. Other posts have included references to communism, alleged homophobic slurs, and praise for military tactics used by Hamas.
Platner became the Democrats’ presumptive nominee after two-term Gov. Janet Mills ended her campaign last month. He is backed by Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. Republican strategist Mehek Cooke told Fox News Digital that the posts raise questions about Platner’s judgment and temperament for statewide office.
Cooke said the comments create a pattern that voters will examine in the general election.
