Denise O'Sullivan Set to Leave Liverpool After Six Months

Liverpool expect Denise O'Sullivan to leave the club this summer, six months after signing the Republic of Ireland midfielder for £300,000 in January. The BBC reported that a return to the National Women's Soccer League is the most likely destination and that Gotham FC are the favorites to sign her.

O'Sullivan made 13 appearances for Liverpool, including nine in the league, and helped the team reach the Women's FA Cup semi-finals in the 2025-26 season.

The BBC reported that her departure is a personal decision driven by a desire to return to the United States. Reports indicate the move could take the form of an initial one-year loan that includes an obligation-to-buy clause. The BBC reported that Liverpool are in positive discussions with O'Sullivan and Gotham FC and expect to receive a large fee for her departure.

O'Sullivan spent nine seasons with North Carolina Courage, where she made more than 150 appearances and served as captain. She has earned 132 caps for the Republic of Ireland. Liverpool have already completed three signings this summer.

The club was unable to convert goalkeeper Jennifer Falk's loan into a permanent deal.
