A 22-year-old man with no fixed address was barred from every Tesco store in Derby for three years after stealing two cans of cider from a Tesco Express on St Peter's Street on March 30. Bailey Esmonde admitted the theft and was also arrested on April 1 after police found cocaine in his possession. He now faces charges for both offences.

2, Esmonde admitted both offences at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court. On May 14 the court issued the Criminal Behaviour Order, which runs until May 13 2029, and gave him a 12-month conditional discharge plus an order to compensate the shop. The order extends an earlier ban that had covered only the Alvaston branch after a 2024 theft of a Monster energy drink and food items.

Police posted Esmonde's custody photograph, social-media users noted a resemblance to singer Ed Sheeran and posted more than 2,500 comments focused on the likeness rather than the offences.
