Detroit Tigers infielder sidelined longer after high ankle sprain
The player has been shut down from baseball activities after a specialist visit. The team manager said recovery remains slow and rest is still required.
nypost.comDetroit Tigers infielder Javier Báez will remain out of action after being shut down from baseball activities. He has been sidelined with a high ankle sprain since late April. The decision followed a specialist consultation on Monday. Manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Tuesday that Báez is not progressing quickly and that rest continues to be part of the treatment plan.
“We were starting to ramp him up and the symptoms were still there,” Hinch said. “High ankle sprains are really hard to deal with. Sometimes the symptoms linger longer than if he had broken it. ” Báez rolled his ankle on an awkward slide into first base during a game on April 28 and was carted off the field.
670 OPS in 78 at-bats.
Contract and performance background Báez signed a six-year, $140 million contract with Detroit before the 2022 season. In five seasons with the team he has hit .230 with a .268 on-base percentage and .361 slugging percentage over 510 games. The injury adds to a season in which the Tigers hold a 23-38 record and sit last in the American League Central.
