Developer Arrested After Allegedly Discussing Court Influence
A Brooklyn developer was arrested on federal wire fraud charges one day after messages showed him discussing efforts to influence his civil case. Court records detail the communications and related allegations.
nypost.comA Brooklyn developer was arrested Wednesday on federal wire fraud charges one day after court records showed messages in which he discussed efforts to influence his civil case. The developer had been involved in a $2 million lawsuit. Court documents presented last week included text messages and voice memos in which he described plans to have judges recuse themselves by hiring lawyers with prior relationships to them.
In one message, the developer wrote "LOL" after a third judge was assigned to the case. " The developer also referenced a relationship with a law clerk in messages about delaying a court order. The clerk later stated by email that he had never spoken to the developer.
The developer and a former judge were arrested together. They face wire fraud conspiracy charges and are named in multiple civil lawsuits alleging tens of millions of dollars in escrow and investment fraud. The developer told The Post in an email the night before his arrest that he has a legitimate claim to the $2 million and that the messages were taken out of context.
Two lawyers connected to the developer have faced professional discipline in separate matters.
