The Devil Wears Prada Sequel Earns $32.5 Million on Opening Day with Celebrity Cameos

The movie stars Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling. Set two decades after the original, the story follows Andy Sachs returning to Runway magazine amid challenges in journalism and fashion.

Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the script, based on Lauren Weisberger's novel. The plot involves Andy Sachs being let go from her journalism job and then approached by Runway chairman Irv Ravitz, played by Tibor Feldman, to help with a scandal.

She works to revitalize the magazine's digital presence and interacts with new characters, including Simone Ashley as Amari Mari and Caleb Hearon as Charlie. NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns appears as himself in a party scene at Miranda Priestly's Hamptons house, where he interacts with Andy Sachs.

Towns described the experience as an honor and noted observing actors at work. Director David Frankel stated he included certain cameos after learning of individuals' connections to the original film. Some filmed scenes, including one reportedly with Sydney Sweeney, did not make the final cut.

The movie runs 119 minutes and is rated PG-13.

The sequel has a 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on initial reviews. Critics noted its balance of modern themes like the decline of print media with the original's wit and glamour. Costume designer Molly Rogers curated outfits for the production.

The opening day earnings indicate strong audience interest. Composer Theodore Shapiro scored the film, with cinematography by Florian Ballhaus and editing by Andrew Marcus. The production company is Wendy Finerman Productions, distributed by 20th Century Studios.
