Messaging platform Discord has enabled end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls for every user on its service. The feature prevents anyone outside the call, including Discord, from accessing the content of conversations. It applies to all calls except those in stage channels.

Discord first introduced the encryption option in 2024.

On Monday the company extended the feature to all users with no opt-in required. “End-to-end Encryption is now standard for every voice and video call on Discord, outside of stage channels. No opt-in required,” said Mark Smith, Discord’s vice president of core technologies, in a blog post.

The update follows earlier decisions by other platforms regarding encryption standards. Meta discontinued end-to-end encryption for Instagram messaging earlier this year. U.S. company.
