Dismissed Nigerian Civil Servants Seek Reinstatement After Senate Resolution
Eight former federal employees dismissed in 2022 from the Ministries of Environment and Works have asked President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to enforce a Senate order for their return to duty.
citizen.co.zaEight civil servants dismissed from Nigeria's Federal Ministries of Environment and Works in 2022 have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio to enforce their reinstatement. The group addressed reporters in Abuja and said the Federal Civil Service Commission has not carried out a Senate resolution adopted on December 10, 2025, that directed their recall and the payment of salary arrears.
The Senate's Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petition examined a March 2024 petition filed by Throneroom Attorneys on the officers' behalf. Public hearings were held in May, July, and November 2024. The committee concluded the employees had received valid appointment letters, appeared on the official gazette, and completed required confirmation examinations.
The Senate adopted three recommendations: reinstatement of the eight officers to their ministries, unfreezing of salary accounts, and payment of back wages from the date of dismissal. Joy Eseoghene, one of the dismissed officers, said the group had sold personal property to meet basic expenses and called on civil society groups and labor unions to press the commission to comply.
The affected officers named in the resolution are Joy Eseoghene, Dangla Elisha Bitrus, Attahiru Mohammed Enagi, Ani Patrick Ikechukwu, Ukueku Oghenetega, Opara Sylvia Adaoma, Opara Anthony Chukwuemeka, and Oloriegbe Charlse Inamudu.
