Disney and its Houston television station KTRK-TV filed a petition asking the Federal Communications Commission to declare The View a bona fide news program. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr posted on X that Disney compared the program to Meet the Press and Face the Nation. S.

Senate candidate James Talarico. Under the Communications Act of 1934, programs that host political candidates must provide equal time to opposing candidates unless the program qualifies as news.

Carr stated that the FCC is seeking public input on whether The View meets the criteria for a news exemption. The commission announced in February that it would apply equal-time rules to daytime and late-night talk shows. Carr wrote that television programs do not qualify as bona fide news if their decisions are based on partisan purposes.

The FCC will accept comments on the Disney petition. The View is hosted by Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro.
