District Attorney Says Vandals of Reflecting Pool Face Charges

Washington, D.C., District Attorney Jeanine Pirro said on Sunday that people who vandalize the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool will face criminal charges. The statement followed reports of damage that contributed to algal growth in the pool. Pirro spoke during an interview with Fox News.
She said citations have already been issued for vandalism and that cases will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The pool bottom had been painted blue as part of a maintenance project. After refilling, algae appeared and sections of the liner detached. Pirro said additional charges could apply if substances were introduced to increase algae growth. Vandalism is currently classified as a misdemeanor.
Trump stated on Saturday that algae coverage had decreased by 75 percent. Repairs to the detached liner are scheduled to finish within one week. The work is intended to prepare the site for July Fourth events. U.S. Park Police have conducted arrests related to the incidents.
