Dodgers Acquire Rockies Reliever Halvorsen for Two Minor Leaguers

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right-hander Seth Halvorsen from the Colorado Rockies on Monday in exchange for right-hander Nick Frasso and minor league outfielder Landyn Vidourek. The trade brings the Dodgers a reliever whose fastball reached 103.3 mph last July, the fastest pitch by a Colorado pitcher since at least 2015.

Halvorsen averaged 100 mph in 2025, third fastest among big league pitchers who faced at least 100 batters.

Halvorsen saved 11 games as a rookie in 2025 after posting a 1.46 ERA in 2024. Colorado placed him on the 15-day injured list on July 1 with shoulder inflammation. This season he has a 4.74 ERA and 15 walks in 19 innings, with velocity down to 98.8 mph.

Halvorsen said last week that a cortisone shot resolved the issue and that he was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

The Dodgers signed Edwin Diaz to close games, but Diaz required elbow surgery after six appearances in April. Blake Treinen is out with elbow inflammation, Brusdar Graterol and Gavin Stone have not pitched in the majors this season, and Shohei Ohtani remains off the mound while recovering from knee surgery.

Frasso, 27, ranked as high as No. 2 in the Dodgers' system before shoulder surgery ended his 2024 season. He has not appeared in a major league game. Vidourek, 22, was the Dodgers' third-round pick out of Cincinnati last year and ranks No. 26 in their system.

The Rockies are acquiring him for his defense after he hit 14 homers and stole 39 bases in 40 attempts as a college junior.
