Dodgers lose 4-3 to Rockies after two errors in eighth inning

Shohei Ohtani hit his 300th career home run three pitches into the game, a 409-foot drive to center field that gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers extended the lead to 3-1 behind a seven-inning, one-run outing from starter Justin Wrobleski. The left-hander allowed six hits and struck out nine.

Left-hander Jack Dreyer then entered and faced a squeeze bunt from Jake McCarthy that scored another run. A subsequent throwing error by Rojas allowed Tyler Freeman to score the go-ahead run, giving the Rockies a 4-3 lead they held for the win. Miguel Rojas said after the game that physical errors are acceptable but mental mistakes are disappointing, noting he should have covered third base on the squeeze play.

Ohtani milestone Ohtani reached the 300-home-run mark in his 1,101th game as a hitter, the fifth-fastest pace in major-league history. He became the first Japanese-born player to hit 300 home runs and the second player after Babe Ruth to reach the mark while also pitching. The Dodgers and Rockies conclude the series on Wednesday.
