Dodgers Manager Reaches 1,000 Career Wins in 1,606 Games

Dave Roberts became the fastest manager in MLB history to reach 1,000 career wins after the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Athletics 9-3 on Tuesday night. Roberts is the 69th manager to reach 1,000 wins and the quickest to do it. He achieved the milestone in 1,606 games, all but one with the Dodgers.

Anson, the next fastest, needed 1,641 games and won his 1,000th in 1893. Roberts is the second manager to reach the milestone in the past two days. A Detroit manager won his 1,000th in a 7-3 win over the New York Yankees. Roberts and that manager are tied for the second-most wins among active managers.

The Cincinnati Reds manager has 2,072 wins. Roberts said reaching 1,000 wins was not on his radar when he started managing. "One thousand didn't even seem on my radar (when I started) because that's a long time of consistent winning, let alone (keeping) a job for 11 years," Roberts said.
